October Presentation

Foam Transition Process Selection

This presentation examines the regulatory, environmental, operational, and financial factors driving the transition from PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foam to non-fluorinated firefighting foam systems. Participants will learn how to assess facility vulnerabilities, compare transition alternatives, and plan system design, decontamination, implementation, testing, and certification while minimizing operational disruption.

By attending this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key federal, state, and international regulatory requirements that influence the transition from PFAS-containing firefighting foam
  • Evaluate facility and fire-suppression-system vulnerabilities using regulatory, operational, environmental, and financial risk considerations
  • Compare foam-transition alternatives based on fire-protection performance, system compatibility, containment, decontamination needs, cost, and schedule
  • Describe the principal steps required to design, implement, test, and certify a non-fluorinated foam system while minimizing operational disruption
