Course Description
Leadership today looks different. In a fast-moving, constantly evolving world, it's not just about having the answers—it's about creating the conditions for others to thrive. In this course, you’ll explore what it takes to lead in today’s complex environment, starting with emotional intelligence and the ability to build psychological safety. Learn how to foster a growth mindset, embrace the strengths of a multi-generational team, and lead with curiosity, empathy, and adaptability. Whether new to leadership or looking to evolve your approach, this course will help you become the kind of leader people want to follow.
Intended Audience
This course is designed for new and experienced leaders who want to grow their impact in today’s fast-changing workplace. It’s a great fit for anyone who’s navigating change, leading diverse teams, or looking to lead with greater empathy, flexibility, and purpose.
Learning Outcomes

Instructors

Lisa Merz Russell
With over 20 years of learning and talent development experience, Lisa nurtures talent by focusing on the unique contributions leaders can make to grow their teams and the organization. Lisa translates insights into meaningful outcomes by highlighting the intersection of learning, connection, and strategic thinking.
After growing up in East Palestine, located in northeastern Ohio, Lisa established her family and career in the Columbus area. She has her Bachelors degrees in Communications and Spanish from The Ohio State University, then went on to earn her Masters degree in Human Resources also from The Ohio State University.
Throughout her career, Lisa has demonstrated leadership abilities in progressive roles within internationally-known organizations including Macy’s, L Brands, Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, and Safelite Autoglass. After leaving the corporate world, she brought her talents to Kane Learning; a boutique consulting firm with expertise in team effectiveness, people leadership, human resources, strategic planning, communications and marketing. Kane Learning has Fortune 500 companies, small business, and non-profits on their client list, all of whom benefit from custom delivered solutions.
Lisa is active in the community alongside her husband and 4 teenage children all of whom enjoy the outdoors, traveling, and trying out new foods.

Michelle White
Michelle specializes in executive coaching and organizational effectiveness. She is passionate about helping individuals, teams, and companies achieve their goals and objectives. Michelle's past experience includes a 25 year career in specialty retail with field and home office executive leadership roles.
Michelle received her Executive Coaching certification from the Center for Executive Coaching and graduated from Franklin University’s Master of Business Administration program.
Giving back through community involvement is very important to Michelle. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Home for Families, a non-profit organization working to end homelessness for children in Central Ohio.

If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least five (5) business days before the course date to receive a refund. The last day to cancel for this course is October 8, 2026.

Substitutions
Can't make it to the course? You can always send someone in your place. Substitutions can be made until the day of the course, October 15, 2026.
Follow these steps to make a substitution:

- Scroll down to "Substitutions"
- Follow link in email
- Enter the confirmation number from the registration email
- At the top of the page, click on the “Substitute Registrant” button
- Enter the name and email of the new registrant
- Click Next

Waitlist
What happens if I am on a waitlist for a course? You will receive an email confirming you have been added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified by email.
CEU and CPE Policy
Attendance in this course can earn:
- 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
- 7.2 Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs)
Attendance is recorded at check-in at the start of the day, and full CEU or CPE credit is awarded based on an honor system, with the expectation that participants are present and actively engaged for the full MAPS course.
Course Certificate
Your course certificate will be emailed to you following the course. It will reflect your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs) earned and your attendance of the course.
Photography
The Ohio State University may occasionally take pictures during educational events for use in program communication. If you do not want to be photographed during this course, please email the MAPS team at glenn-training@osu.edu.
MAPS Membership
A MAPS member receives a discounted rate of $250 for each course with the initial purchase of at least 12 credits. Each credit equals one course for one individual.
