As populations age, retirement expectations evolve and investment markets face growing uncertainty, pension systems worldwide are under increasing pressure to deliver sustainable and adequate retirement outcomes. For superannuation funds, asset managers and investment professionals, these challenges raise critical questions about investment strategies, retirement income solutions, and long-term member outcomes.
The recently released 2026 Marsh CFA Institute Global Pension Index, now in its 18th year, benchmarks 55 retirement income systems across three key dimensions: adequacy, sustainability, and integrity. Its findings provide valuable insights into how pension systems are responding to emerging challenges, and what can be learnt from other systems.
Australia received an A-grade in the Index for the first time, but there remains scope for improvement. This CFA Society event will unpack the key findings of the 2026 Index, followed by an expert panel exploring the future fitness of Australia's superannuation system. The discussion will examine the implications for investment strategies, retirement income solutions and member outcomes, and the industry and policy reforms needed to strengthen Australia's retirement system.
