Looking for a deeper dive into the ethics of AI? This session is for you!

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how people access information, seek support, and make decisions. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, social workers are faced with new ethical questions, practice considerations, and clinical challenges. This interactive workshop is designed for practitioners who want to move beyond introductory discussions of AI and explore its real-world implications for social work practice.

Participants will engage in thoughtful examination of ethical dilemmas related to the use of AI in professional settings, including concerns surrounding confidentiality, informed consent, bias, accuracy, and professional responsibility. Through case-based learning and guided discussion, attendees will apply ethical decision-making frameworks grounded in social work values and the NASW Code of Ethics to navigate complex situations involving AI technologies.

The workshop will also explore the growing reality that clients are independently using AI tools for emotional support, problem-solving, identity exploration, and coping. Through interactive breakout discussions and real-world scenarios, participants will analyze the potential benefits, risks, and clinical implications of client AI use. Special attention will be given to maintaining the therapeutic relationship while responding in ways that are ethical, culturally responsive, and client-centered.

Dr. Marina Badillo-Diaz

Dr. Marina Badillo-Diaz, LCSW, is a social work professor, administrator, and consultant specializing in artificial intelligence in social work practice and education. She is the founder of MABD Consulting and The AI Social Worker, where she develops trainings, courses, and resources to support social workers in ethically and effectively integrating AI into their work. Dr. Badillo-Diaz has presented nationally and internationally on AI, youth mental health, and school social work, and currently serves as a board member of the School Social Work Association of America. Her work focuses on bridging innovation with ethical, human-centered practice across micro, mezzo, and macro levels.

To be eligible for the reduced rate, you must be a graduate of the LSU School of Social Work or have supervised an LSU Social Work student during the previous academic year.

Guidelines for receiving CE credit:

  1. For this session, you will need a microphone and camera on your device. 
  2. Active participation will be required to obtain CE hours, so please ensure that you are visible onscreen and that you respond to all requests for responses. 
  3. If you need to step away momentarily you may notify the moderator during the session. 
  4. Participants who are away from the session and who do not respond to requests will be removed from the session and will need to re-enter upon returning. 
  5. LABSWE does not permit CE credit for anyone who is driving during the session. 

CE certificates will be issued via email within 5 business days.
