Certified Trustee Program – 16-Hour Training Requirement

Newly elected or appointed Article 3 and Article 4 pension trustees in Illinois are required to complete a minimum of 16 hours of trustee certification training within their first year of service. The training must be provided at an accredited facility affiliated with a State of Illinois-certified college or university.

The IPPFA Certified Trustee Program, offered in partnership with Northern Illinois University (NIU), fulfills this mandatory training requirement.  This program provides trustees with the foundational knowledge and education needed to understand their responsibilities and effectively serve their pension funds.
