Course Description

In the last several years, there has been an explosion in the number of new endodontic file systems, with most manufacturers making claims of superiority for their design or metallurgy. With all of the confusion and misinformation around what might be the “best endodontic file”, it is increasingly difficult for practitioners to make informed choices about which design features can achieve the best clinical outcomes. This evidence-based review of cutting-edge instrumentation options will place a special emphasis on instrument design and mechanical movements. Applications of a single file reciprocating system and retreatment strategies using a single file will be the emphasis of the discussion.

At conclusion participants should be able to:

1) Differentiate when a single file can be used with no scouting or glide path from cases where hybridization would be more efficient.

2) Implement a single reciprocating file for traditional shaping or utilize a smaller version when a minimally invasive preparation is desired.

3) Utilize a single reciprocating file for the removal of gutta percha, paste or carrier based obturation for efficient retreatment.
