Overview
The Clinical Faculty Academy is a communitywide training program for registered nurses serving as adjunct clinical faculty at nursing schools in Missouri. This program is designed to develop qualified staff nurses for the role of clinical nurse educators to increase the faculty workforce, and expand and sustain enrollments in schools of nursing. Through the Clinical Faculty Academy, clinical educators learn the core competencies and learner concepts necessary to serve as an adjunct clinical nurse faculty for local nursing schools, along with the skills necessary to guide and evaluate students and prepare written assignments.
Objectives
- explain the relationship between the Clinical Faculty Academy, the Missouri State Board of Nursing, and health care agencies in Missouri and Kansas
- distinguish between clinical judgment, clinical reasoning and critical thinking
- outline strategies to reduce risk in your faculty role by summarizing FERPA and HIPAA
- summarize the use of learning outcomes in a clinical setting and strategies to facilitate learning
- compare selected clinical evaluation tools used in nursing education
- discuss the importance of positive student-faculty relationships
- explain the purposes of pre- and post-clinical conferences
- develop an initial philosophy of teaching
- develop self-awareness of your own personal characteristics that will facilitate developing positive faculty-student relationships
- identify and interrupt incivility and unprofessional behavior, as well as examine the role of the clinical faculty in addressing challenging and complex situations
Continuing Education
This program has been approved for a total of 12.5 contact hours.
Participants must attend the program in its entirety and complete an evaluation to receive a certificate of completion and continuing education contact hours.

MHA reserves the right to cancel this event due to low enrollment, public health concerns, natural disasters or unforeseen weather conditions, or any circumstance that makes it illegal, impossible or commercially impracticable for the event to be held. In the unlikely event this occurs, a full refund for any registration costs will be provided. MHA is not responsible for nonrefundable items such as airfare, hotel or other travel costs.Â
