Well and Production Data Management

Well and Production Data Management will teach students how to locate, analyze, and interpret oil and gas well information using the Enerdeq Browser platform. Enerdeq provides access to well, production, permit, and activity data across North America and is widely used by geologists, engineers, land professionals, analysts, and acquisition teams

Expect to Learn:

Students could learn to:

1. Understand Well Data

  • Read and interpret API numbers
  • Identify well status (drilling, producing, shut-in, plugged, etc.)
  • Review operator and ownership information
  • Analyze well locations and directional surveys
  • Understand completion and stimulation data
  • Evaluate horizontal and vertical well characteristics

2. Analyze Production Data

  • Access oil and gas production histories
  • Interpret monthly and cumulative production volumes
  • Identify production trends and decline patterns
  • Compare performance between wells and operators
  • Understand lease-level versus well-level production reporting
  • Calculate basic production metrics and forecasts

3. Build and Run Queries

  • Search wells by county, operator, formation, or field
  • Create custom queries to identify target wells
  • Filter data based on production thresholds
  • Save and reuse searches for future analysis
  • Export query results for reporting and further analysis

4. Use Maps and Spatial Analysis

  • Locate wells on interactive maps
  • Identify nearby operators and offset wells
  • Evaluate drilling activity in a geographic area

5. Evaluate Drilling and Completion Activity

  • Track permits and rig activity
  • Review completion dates and production start dates
  • Monitor operator development programs
  • Identify emerging plays and trends in a basin

6. Export Data for Business Analysis

  • Export well and production datasets into Excel
  • Create production reports and dashboards
  • Support acquisition, divestiture, and land projects
  • Prepare data for engineering and geological studies

7. Apply Data to Industry Decisions

Students would learn how well and production data supports:

  • Reservoir and production engineering
  • Land and mineral ownership analysis
  • Acquisitions and divestitures (A&D)
  • Business development
  • Regulatory and compliance research

Who would benefit from attending:

Anyone who would like to independently retrieve well and production information from Enerdeq, analyze production performance, create custom reports, and use industry data to support technical and business decisions.

Prior Knowledge required:

Typical Prerequisites

  • Basic computer skills
  • Familiarity with Excel
  • Introductory oil and gas Or Industry Knowledge
  • Understanding of common industry terms such as well, lease, operator, production, and reservoir
