Summary
Europe’s floating solar market is expanding as countries focus on increasing renewable energy uptake against energy security concerns and competing land-use pressures. Floating solar systems do not require large tracts of land and can make use of reservoirs, hydropower dams, irrigation ponds and other water bodies to add solar capacity.
New markets for floating solar deployment have emerged across Europe, with declining costs, maturing technology, and an expanding marketplace. Hybrid configurations combining floating solar with hydropower, offshore wind and battery storage are also gaining traction, for improving the flexibility of renewable power systems and enabling shared grid infrastructure.
Going forward, European markets will need to address permitting, environmental impacts, water-body use, and grid connectivity to scale floating solar. Further, clear policy direction is required across markets to give confidence to investors and lenders, and improve the bankability of these projects.
Against this backdrop, REGlobal is organising the fourth edition of its Floating Solar in Europe on March 4, 2027 in Amsterdam. The featured sessions will focus on these themes: potential and growth trends, policy and permitting frameworks, floating platforms and anchoring systems, building nature-inclusive and robust projects, unlocking hybrid renewable generation, making floating solar bankable as well as lessons learned and the road ahead for floating solar in Europe.
This conference will provide a platform to policymakers, regulators, solar power developers, utilities, technology providers, manufacturers, grid operators, water authorities, permitting bodies, researchers, and industry experts for knowledge exchange and business networking.
