Joint Commission
Robert Campbell, PharmD, BCSCP, currently serves as the Vice President of Accreditation/Certification Program Development and Accreditation Management at Joint Commission. In this position, Dr. Campbell oversees the teams that are responsible for the development of and updates to all Joint Commission and Joint Commission International accreditation and certification programs, as well the development and education of global field staff. Additionally, his teams provide the standards interpretation for all Joint Commission accreditation and certification programs. Dr. Campbell is responsible for the oversight of post-survey processes related to accreditation decisions and is the subject matter expert for medication safety, guiding the development, revision, and interpretation of medication safety–related standards.
Dr. Campbell continues to function as a Surveyor for The Joint Commission in the Hospital Accreditation and Critical Access Hospital Accreditation Programs, as well as a Reviewer in the Medication Compounding Certification Program to assess compliance with accreditation and certification program standards. He is a member of the Accreditation Council for the Joint Commission and the Co-Chair of the National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention. He was also appointed to the Compounded Sterile Preparations Pharmacy Specialty Council of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties for the 2024-2026 term.
Before joining The Joint Commission, Dr. Campbell held a variety of leadership roles within health care organizations, overseeing performance improvement, accreditation readiness, risk management, infection control, medical staff services, as well as both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services.
Dr. Campbell is Board Certified in Compounded Sterile Preparations by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and a Registered Pharmacist in Florida. He also holds a Six Sigma Green Belt.
