Join this interactive town hall to learn about the proposed UIDP Foundations for Industry Research Experiences Certificate and help shape its curriculum.
Understanding how research operates in industry can help STEM doctoral students make the most of internships, research collaborations, and other industry-based opportunities. Join UIDP for a virtual town hall on the Foundations for Industry Research Experiences certificate program now under development—and help shape its content and implementation.
Developed as part of the UIDP Industry-Integrated PhD (I-PhD) Scholars Program, Foundations for Industry Research Experiences is a scalable, non-credit certificate program designed to introduce STEM doctoral students to the expectations, terminology, and practices that shape research in industry. Virtual, asynchronous modules will provide foundational knowledge that participants can apply in industry settings. The program is intended to eventually serve a broader audience of students and researchers.
During this interactive town hall, participants will hear how community input has informed the proposed curriculum and discuss how the certificate could complement experiential learning and existing student-development efforts. Feedback from the conversation will help guide continued curriculum refinement ahead of the UIDP Certificate Design Summit: Foundations for Industry Research Experiences on Dec. 3 in Washington, D.C.
Agenda Highlights
- Review the certificate framework. Explore the program’s purpose, proposed curriculum, and the community feedback that has shaped its focus on foundational knowledge for industry research experiences.
- Share perspectives on implementation. Discuss how the certificate could complement industry experiences and existing student-development efforts.
- Inform the upcoming Certificate Design Summit. Contribute feedback to guide curriculum refinement and learn about opportunities to nominate additional summit participants.
This informational town hall will include facilitated discussion and audience Q&A. Participants are encouraged to raise questions, share perspectives, and offer practical suggestions.
