From Compliance Burden to Board Insight: Practical AI for Compliance, Legal and Assurance Teams

Compliance teams must track more regulation, govern rapidly expanding AI use and give boards evidence that programmes work, often while information remains scattered across documents, email and spreadsheets. These challenges affect not only compliance managers, but also legal advisers, auditors and assurance professionals, technology teams and the wider AI innovation community.

This practical session examines where AI can genuinely reduce the burden and where human judgement must remain in control. It draws on a recent needs analysis conducted by MMIND.ai with more than 30 compliance managers:

· 81% track regulation manually.

· 84% work with unstructured documents.

· 56% do not measure programme effectiveness regularly.

· 53% cite a lack of in-house AI-governance expertise.

We’ll explore controlled use cases such as regulatory monitoring, reporting and KPI preparation, policy and evidence retrieval, and AI inventory and risk classification. The session will also explain the trust layer needed around them: private or hybrid processing, role-based access, human review and an auditable decision trail.

Finally, we’ll consider how legal, assurance, technology, business and public-sector actors could collaborate as the region’s AI ecosystem grows, including around the future Manchester Digital Campus.
