SUMMARY

This workshop is designed as an introductory overview of the Developmental Assessment of Young Children-Second Edition (DAYC-2),  approved for use in Illinois Early Intervention, a curriculum-based, global assessment tool.

The DAYC-2 measures a child’s developmental level in the following domains: Cognition, Communication, Social-Emotional Development, Physical Development, and Adaptive Behavior. Each of the five domains reflects an area mandated in IDEA regarding the assessment and intervention for young children.

This workshop provides an overview of assessment best practice, data integration practices, and formal review of the DAYC-2. This DAYC-2 review includes principles of use, psychometric properties, administration procedures, scoring, and interpretation guidance within a context of overall data using a variety of media formats.

Objectives:

1. Participants will state the relevance of the DAYC-2 for use in developmental evaluation and assessment.

2. Participants will demonstrate ability to follow DAYC-2 administration guidelines.

3. Participants will demonstrate the ability to properly score and interpret DAYC-2 results.

4. Participants will be able to describe how to utilize data from multiple sources (including DAYC-2) for the purpose of establishing eligibility.

Completing this event meets the global assessment requirement for the Illinois Early Intervention Developmental Therapy credential.

This workshop is not intended as proficient instruction on the use of this assessment tool.
