Keynote Speaker

Jody Slavick

Dr. Jody Slavick is the Executive Director of Literacy Squared®, housed within the BUENO Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Through her early experiences teaching and coaching in bilingual and ESL programs in Colorado schools, she witnessed the promise and potential of bilingual education—but also how systems and structures can too often limit that potential.

Driven to improve the educational experiences of multilingual learners, Dr. Slavick earned her Ph.D. in Equity, Bilingualism, and Biliteracy and her M.A. in Bilingual Special Education at CU Boulder, where she was mentored by pioneers in biliteracy, including Dr. Kathy Escamilla and Dr. Susan Hopewell.

Today, she works to bridge research and practice—collaborating with educators and experts nationwide to bring the transformative power of biliteracy to life in classrooms and to advance a shared vision for teaching that affirms and uplifts the voices and identities of multilingual learners.
