Founded in 2008 by flutist and educator Patricia Surman, the Summer Flute Institute has inspired and educated hundreds of flutists through intensive study, artistic collaboration, and performance. As the program continues to grow, it is expanding under the Mountain West Flute Institute banner, broadening its reach while preserving the tradition of excellence that has defined the institute for nearly two decades.

The 2027 Mountain West Flute Institute at Utah State University will bring together outstanding artists, educators, and students for five days of masterclasses, private coachings, chamber music, performance opportunities, and artistic collaboration with an internationally distinguished faculty. Building upon the legacy of the Summer Flute Institute, the Mountain West Flute Institute continues to foster excellence, creativity, community, and a lifelong passion for music in flutists of all ages and levels.
