Overview
The number of deficiencies in the physical environment condition of participation and the environment-of-care standards has increased over the years. This session will review commonly cited life-safety code deficiencies in hospitals. Participants also will learn about widely cited physical environment deficiencies and frequently cited life-safety code deficiencies as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services updates about these areas, including expectations for ligature-resistant environments, CMS categorical waivers, and surgical suite air pressure and humidity concerns.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- describe and identify common physical environment deficiencies
- describe how and when relative humidity may be lowered in anesthetizing locations
- explain how to avoid these common deficiencies
- explain how to use a categorical waiver
