Dark skies and remote sites have attracted world-class astronomical facilities to the Southwest and supported a wide range of research since the mid-1900s. Regional achievements span areas in both science and technology including optical and radio interferometry, as well as new understanding of solar physics, planetary science, star and galaxy formation and evolution, and the creation and evolution of our universe. To support the network of scientific research in the Southwest and encourage interdisciplinary discussions, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is sponsoring the 40th Annual New Mexico Symposium on Friday, 22 November 2024.
Date and Location
The Symposium will be held in-person on Friday, 22 November 2024, at the NRAO Domenici Science Operations Center, and will be streamed online. We anticipate to fill the symposium day with presentations from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm MT, including poster sessions.
Symposium Dinner
NRAO will be hosting a post-meeting dinner, starting with pre-dinner drinks at 5:30 pm MT. The dinner will be held at the DeJu House at 6pm MT. The dinner event will be free to officially registered symposium participants.
Jansky Lecture
The 59th annual Karl G. Jansky Lecture will be presented by Dr. Ken Kellermann, Astronomer Emeritus, from the NRAO on "Discovering the Radio Universe". The public lecture is free to attend by any member of the public, and will be held at Workman 101 on the NMT campus in Socorro, starting at 7 pm MT. A reception will follow the lecture.
