A Conversation About the New Law

Georgia’s new Financial Institution Transaction Hold Authority, effective July 1, 2026, gives financial institutions the ability to place a temporary hold on certain transactions when there is reasonable cause to suspect financial exploitation of an eligible adult. With this new authority comes important responsibilities related to employee training, written policies and procedures, notifications, internal investigations, recordkeeping and the use of trusted contacts.

Join GBA and the Georgia Department of Banking & Finance for a two-hour conversation designed to help banks understand the new law and begin putting it into practice. Kevin Vaughn of the Georgia Department of Banking & Finance and GBA President & CEO Tripp Cofield will discuss the purpose and key provisions of the law, what banks need to have in place before using the transaction hold authority, and practical considerations for implementing the requirements.

The program will also include an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and hear directly from the Department about implementation.

Participants will also receive a GBA Toolkit to use as a starting point for implementation.

Who Should Attend?

Bank executives and senior management, compliance and BSA/AML professionals, fraud and risk personnel, branch and operations staff, customer service representatives, internal auditors, legal counsel and anyone responsible for reviewing or approving transactions or implementing policies and procedures related to financial exploitation and transaction holds.

Registration Price: This webinar is free for GBA members.
