This year-long cohort program guides member institutions through CIS Controls adoption and implementation using a community-based, expert-supported approach. You’ll participate in a collaborative learning environment designed to help you assess, improve, and track your institution’s cybersecurity maturity over time.

CIS Controls and Benchmarks offer a prioritized, actionable framework for strengthening your defenses and aligning with compliance mandates. NYSERNet is here to help you implement them—together.

What to Expect

Each cohort includes:

✅ Fireside Chat Kickoff — Hear from institutions already using CIS Controls 

✅ Baseline Assessment — Complete your initial cybersecurity self-assessment using NYSERNet’s hosted CIS CSAT tool  

✅ Monthly Virtual Meetups — Join guided discussions with breakout rooms by Implementation Group or maturity level  

✅ Continuing Education — Attend sessions that unpack CIS Implementation Groups 1–3 based on risk and resourcing  

✅ Slack Community Access — Stay connected with peers and NYSERNet experts between sessions  

✅ Reassessments — Track your progress and adjust your goals throughout the year
