Supporting and Coaching Staff to Successfully Implement the DECA Program
Tuesdays, September 29 - November 17, 2026, from 1-2:30 p.m. (ET)
Implementation of any quality program requires resources, trusted leadership, continuous quality improvement, reflective relationships, and well-defined roles and responsibilities. Coaching has proven effective in supporting these aspects. Coaches can provide the proper support that teachers and staff need to succeed.
This eight-session training will provide participants with coaching skills, tips, and tools for guiding teachers and staff through implementation of the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) Program. Successful DECA Program implementation requires consideration of many aspects, including financial planning, time management, staff wellness, team building, buy-in, and culturally responsive and sustaining practices. The centerpiece of this training will be the DECA Program Readiness and Reflection Tool, which was created to help leaders and coaches reflect on important questions that should be discussed to ensure successful implementation. The competencies and skills that participants will gain from this training will help them create a culture of resilience and wellness.
Who should register?
This training is intended for individuals providing support for teachers and staff implementing the DECA Program. Participants could be directors, assistance directors, coordinators, managers, consultants, or coaches. Ultimately, if you’re someone who needs to provide support for others around DECA Program implementation, this training is for you!
Prerequisites
A basic understanding of the DECA Program is required to truly benefit from this training. Whether that understanding comes from attending a standard training on the DECA Program, or from reading through DECA Program resources, it is imperative that participants are familiar with basic principles of the DECA Program. To ensure all participants come with a shared working knowledge, participants will be provided with a list of materials to review and understand.
If you’d like to confirm your understanding of the basic principles, complete this DECA Coaching Self-Assessment. You are not required to do this, nor do you have to turn it in, but we do ask that you review it and familiarize yourself with the content. Doing so will prepare you/your team for the training content and discussions.
