COURSE DESCRIPTION

Clear aligner therapy has moved from a specialty service to a core component of comprehensive general dentistry. Yet many dentists still hesitate to build this service line into their practice — uncertain about case selection, biomechanics, competitive positioning, and how to talk about aligners with patients in a way that closes.

This full-day continuing education seminar gives general dentists a clear, honest, and clinically rigorous framework for delivering aligner therapy with the SureSmile system from Dentsply Sirona. The morning is designed for clinicians new to aligners. Participants learn a structured case-triage approach that separates the three case types they can treat tomorrow from the three that warrant referral — then walk through the complete six-step SureSmile workflow from initial consult to final retainer. The morning closes with the “Your First Case” workshop, in which every dentist plans a real case end-to-end at their table.

The afternoon is designed for experienced aligner users currently working with Invisalign or another competitor system. Participants examine the biomechanical principles of anchorage, attachments, and interproximal reduction; work through an honest head-to-head comparison of SureSmile and Invisalign — including the specific clinical, workflow, and business reasons a switch may or may not make sense; and participate in the “The Switch” workshop, replanning one of their own competitor cases live in SureSmile with support from the presenter.

Throughout the day, the presenter discloses his industry relationship openly and explicitly flags which claims are operational fact, which are clinical opinion, and where the peer-reviewed evidence is genuinely limited — a framing rarely offered in KOL-delivered CE. Attendees leave with a peer-reviewed bibliography of twelve references supporting the day’s content, a 90-day implementation plan for their practice, and the confidence to deliver aligner therapy safely, predictably, and profitably in their own hands."

Objectives

1. Identify three categories of aligner cases appropriate for treatment in general practice and three categories warranting referral, applying a structured triage approach to case selection.

2. Describe the clinical biomechanics underlying aligner tooth movement — including anchorage, attachments, and interproximal reduction — and how staging protocol affects predictability.

3. Compare the SureSmile and Invisalign systems across workflow, algorithm, integration, and business case — distinguishing manufacturer claims from peer-reviewed evidence and clinical opinion.
