Key benefits of using APGC-MS for POPs analysis in food and environmental testing
Gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry under atmospheric pressure (APGC-MS) is emerging as a powerful alternative to traditional high-resolution sector field mass spectrometry for the analysis of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This lunch session will explore the advantages of APGC-MS, including enhanced selectivity and sensitivity, excellent robustness, and simplified instrument operation compared with conventional sector field MS platforms.
Sina Schweizer from the European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL) for POPs and leading industry specialists will present application examples demonstrating the capabilities of APGC-MS for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), brominated flame retardants (BFRs), and dioxins.
Case studies will illustrate the performance of the technology across a variety of food and environmental matrices, highlighting its suitability for routine monitoring, regulatory compliance, and high-throughput laboratory workflows. Particular attention will be given to the use of nitrogen as a carrier gas, offering laboratories a practical approach to mitigate the impact of ongoing helium supply challenges while maintaining analytical performance.
