Frances Z. Brown
Frances Z. Brown is vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she oversees programs on Africa, American statecraft, democracy, conflict, and governance, and Carnegie California. Dr. Brown previously served on the National Security Council staff across three presidential administrations, most recently as special assistant to the president and senior director for Africa under President Biden. Earlier, she served as NSC director for democracy and fragile states and worked at the US Agency for International Development, managing political transition programs in Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. Brown’s research focuses on US foreign policy, democracy, Africa, and the Middle East.
Adam Habib
Adam Habib is vice-chancellor of SOAS University of London and a professor of political science. Previously, he served as vice-chancellor and principal of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and as deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Johannesburg. He is a co-founder of the African Research Universities Alliance, which brings together leading research-intensive universities across the continent. Habib has written extensively on democratization, inequality, social movements, institutional reform, and South Africa’s role in Africa and the world. He is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of both the African Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Science of South Africa.
Leslie Vinjamuri
Leslie Vinjamuri is president and CEO of the Chicago Council. She joined the Council from the Royal Institute of International Affairs, known as Chatham House, in London, where she served as director of the US and the Americas program and previously as dean of the Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs. With more than 20 years of experience in international affairs, research, policy, and public engagement, she has authored more than 30 publications, and is a regular media commentator, contributing to The New York Times, The Washington Post, Financial Times, and appearing on CNN, Bloomberg, and the BBC, among others.
