September Presentation
Advancing Inflow and Infiltration Investigations through Data-Driven Collection System Modeling
Using GIS, aerial imagery, asset information, and topographic data to develop physically based collection system models provides valuable insight into sewer system performance and potential sources of inflow and infiltration (I/I). Through real-world examples, this presentation will demonstrate how desktop analyses, combined with a robust flow monitoring program, can identify and prioritize I/I concerns before field investigations are conducted. It will also show how subsequent SSES and other field data can validate model findings, refine system understanding, and support targeted, cost-effective I/I reduction recommendations.
After attending this webinar, participants should be able to:
- Recognize common sources and impacts of RDII in collection systems.
- Identify key data sources that support collection system modeling and I/I investigations.
- Understand how flow monitoring supports model calibration and the identification of high I/I areas.
- Describe how SSES investigations can confirm and refine model-based findings.
- Explain how integrated desktop analyses and field investigations support effective I/I reduction programs.
