Paweł Markiewicz
Paweł Markiewicz is executive director of the Washington, DC, office of the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) and advisor to the PISM director for US operations. A historian specializing in 20th-century Central and Eastern Europe, he has held visiting positions at the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Ukrainian Studies in Kyiv, Salem State University’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, and Harvard University’s Ukrainian Research Institute. His research and analysis have appeared in publications including Foreign Policy, The Polish Review, and Slavonic and East European Review, and he has provided commentary for leading Polish media, including Rzeczpospolita and Gazeta Wyborcza.
Vanessa Audemard d'Alançon
Vanessa Audemard d'Alançon serves as regional expert for the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs at the Embassy of France in Washington, DC, where she specializes on the implementation of policies on information integrity and the countering of information manipulation. Her work focuses on engagement and capacity-building for monitoring the information space and responding strategically to information threats. In 2025, she contributed to a parliamentary inquiry led by the Foreign Affairs Commission of the French National Assembly examining the emergence of artificial intelligence in foreign interference.
Ariane Tabatabai
Ariane Tabatabai joined the Council in 2026 as the vice president of research, security and defense. She also serves as senior fellow for the Middle East, focusing on nuclear security and regional security dynamics in the Middle East. Previously, Dr. Tabatabai served in the US Departments of State and Defense, including as US deputy assistant secretary of defense for force education and training. She is an expert on nuclear issues, Iranian foreign and security policy, and regional security in the Middle East, and her current research focuses on US alliances and NATO. Dr. Tabatabai has held senior positions at the RAND Corporation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Columbia University.
