Georgetown Law Executive Education - AI for Legal Leaders - Artificial Intelligence for Legal Leaders

Artificial Intelligence for Legal Leaders is a five-week, live online executive education program designed for experienced legal leaders navigating the opportunities, risks, and responsibilities of generative AI use.

Led by Georgetown Law faculty member Jonah Perlin, the program provides both a technical grounding in how generative AI works and the ethical concerns that lawyers must consider when adopting AI tools as well as a practical introduction to effective and efficient AI use. Specifically, participants will explore how generative AI can help them reshape their own legal practice and the legal practice of the legal organizations that they lead, including having conversations about how practice is changing the legal landscape, building an AI-first lawyering mindset, and integrating AI ethically and strategically at an organizational level.

Through interactive discussions, real-world examples, and expert-led modules, participants will examine how generative AI can change the way they practice law as well as the ways in which it is changing the practice of law around them. They will leave with a clear framework for integrating AI tools responsibly and strategically into their organizations.

Participants will complete short weekly reflections that build toward a final capstone project applying program concepts to their own practice or organization. Along the way, they could engage in discussion posts, peer exchanges, and group conversations to deepen learning. All assignments will be graded for completion, emphasizing practical application and collaboration rather than traditional evaluation.

By the end of the program, participants will be better equipped to make informed, strategic decisions about adopting and governing generative AI in their practice or institution while balancing innovation with legal, ethical, and professional considerations.

Jonah Perlin is a Professor of Law, Legal Practice and Senior Fellow at the Center on Ethics and the Legal Profession where he coordinates the Program on Technology, Ethics, and the Legal Profession at the Georgetown University Law Center. Jonah teaches and writes about legal communication, legal ethics, and technology of law with a focus on how generative AI will change legal practice. His prior academic work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology, Washington Law Review, the Yale Journal of Law & Technology, the Stetson Business Law Review, Legal Communication & Rhetoric, and the Georgetown Law Journal (student note). Jonah is also the host of How I Lawyer, a Top-30 Careers Podcast for junior lawyers. Previously, Jonah was a litigator at Williams & Connolly LLP and a law clerk on the District Court for the District of Columbia and the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
