Join SOCHE for a virtual lunch and learn, "The Tech Stack for Non-Tech Educators," on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 12 p.m. ET via Zoom. This session will be presented by Dr. Jonathan McCombs, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Franklin University.
With new AI tools appearing almost daily, it can be difficult to know which ones are actually worth using. This practical session is designed for faculty, staff, and academic leaders who want to move beyond the hype and build a simple, effective AI toolkit.
Dr. McCombs will demonstrate how accessible tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, NotebookLM, Canva, WisprFlow, Teams, Zoom, YouTube, and emerging AI agents can support course design, research, communication, content creation, and everyday administrative work. Participants will also learn practical prompting techniques and leave with a framework for evaluating AI tools, plus actionable strategies they can begin using immediately.

- Identify the core categories of an educator's AI-enabled tech stack and the primary tools for each.
- Compare the strengths and limitations of ChatGPT, Claude, and NotebookLM for common higher education tasks.
- Apply a practical prompting framework to produce higher-quality AI outputs.
- Evaluate AI tools for use in their own teaching, leadership, or administrative workflows.
- Develop a 30-day plan for integrating one or two AI tools into their work.
