BLS Instructor Essentials Registration Information
Before registering for this course you must first apply to become an instructor on the Heart & Stroke website.
There is a $55.00 fee paid directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada for the application process. Once approved, you can then register for this course.
Instructions on applying to become a BLS Instructor:
Go to the Heart & Stroke website https://cpr.heartandstroke.ca/s/courses?language=en_US. Select "Become an Instructor" and follow the instructions on the website to apply to become an instructor.

The BLS Instructor course will provide the knowledge and skill necessary to teach the required curriculum for Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS courses. The course provides an overview of the responsibilities of a Heart and Stroke Instructor, instructor materials including video and lesson maps, review of adult learning principles, and practice skills testing and use of evaluation tools.
Prerequisites for the course include:
- Proof of current Heart & Stroke BLS Provider completed within 6 months of starting the instructor course.
- Proof of completion of the Core Instructor Training Module. - Complete Core Instructor Training (online) prior to Instructor Course ($35). (Completed on the Heart and Stroke Training Portal under Online Courses)
- Proof of completion of the BLS IE online module (which will be assigned to you 4 weeks prior to the course).
- Proof of completion of your pre-requisites need to be showing on you Heart & Stroke account no later than 72 hours prior to the class.

- 2020 Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Manual.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Course Videos USB.
- 2020 Handbook Emergency Cardiovascular Care.
- Please purchase the 2020 Basic Life Support: Instructor Kit - Gold, Print RE3460. (If you are purchasing materials separatly you require the following):
- You must bring a timing device with you to the course.
The BLS Instructor Course covers a lot of material in a short time. Please open and review all the materials as listed above prior to the course.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicising skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting.

Attendance Guidelines
- Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to start time.
- Attendance for the full duration is mandatory.
- Due to the volume of material this session covers, we will not be able accept late arrivals.
- Late arrivals and those not participating for the full duration each day will be asked to reschedule at their own expense.
