This introductory training provides an overview of psychosis symptoms and diagnostic criteria. Participants will learn to distinguish between attenuated and full-threshold psychosis, explore how culture and trauma shape symptom presentation and interpretation, and understand the importance of establishing rapport when discussing emerging symptoms. Psychosis 101 also supports providers in developing skills for talking with clients and families about possible psychosis indicators and reinforces the critical role of early identification and intervention.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the core symptoms of psychosis and review the standard screening process used in early detection.
  2. Describe the influence of culture and trauma on the presentation and interpretation of psychotic symptoms.
  3. Recognize the importance of early intervention and timely treatment in improving outcomes for individuals experiencing psychosis.
  4. Discuss best practices for effective communication with program participants and their families within early psychosis services.

The Missouri Behavioral Health Council will award continuing education to behavioral health professionals that log in for the full session.

New Requirement for Continuing Education Credits (Effective July 1, 2025):

To receive CE credits for virtual trainings or meetings, participants are required to have their camera turned on for the duration of the training, except during scheduled breaks.
