From 2025 and 2026 to 2027:
One Community, One Bigger Journey
2025 and 2026 gave us two very special opportunities to come together as facilitators.
In Bucharest, Romania, in November 2025, the IAF EME Conference brought our community together for meaningful conversations, fresh perspectives and the kind of connections that continue long after the conference doors close. Across sessions, conversations and shared experiences, we explored what it means to facilitate in a changing world, while learning from one another and celebrating the richness of our European and Middle Eastern community.
And then came Birmingham in April 2026, where the IAF England and Wales team welcomed us to #FACILITATE2026. Once again, facilitators gathered to learn, exchange ideas, challenge thinking and, perhaps most importantly, enjoy being together. From inspiring sessions and thoughtful conversations to those spontaneous chats over coffee, shared laughs and new friendships, Birmingham created memories that will stay with us.
Two conferences. Two places. Different teams, different experiences, different stories. But underneath it all was the same thing: our community.
The connections made in Bucharest, the conversations continued in Birmingham, the ideas sparked in one room and carried into another, all reminded us of what makes IAF conferences so special. We come together not only to learn about facilitation, but to learn with and from each other.
So, what happens when these two journeys come together?
Welcome to the next chapter.
In 2027, IAF and Friends in England, Wales and Scotland will take on a new and exciting role: hosting the IAF EME Conference. Building on the energy, experience and memories of 2026, we are bringing these two conference stories together for one shared EME experience in 2027.
It will be a chance to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new ones, continue conversations that began in Bucharest and Birmingham, and create entirely new ones along the way. Expect inspiring learning, generous sharing, meaningful connections, new perspectives and, of course, plenty of those unplanned moments that somehow become our favourite conference memories.
Because a great conference is never just about the programme. It is about the people we meet, the ideas we exchange, the questions we take home, the conversations that continue afterwards, and the sense that we are part of something bigger. And we cannot wait to see what we create, learn and experience together.
The programme is built around four themes, the 4 Cs of facilitation: Craft, Clarity, Change and Challenge. Together, they cover what it actually takes to be a complete and inclusive facilitator, not just a skilled one.
