U.S.-Japan Nuclear Security Working Group (NSWG) Overview
NSWG History: The United States and Japan announced the establishment of the U.S.-Japan Nuclear Security Working Group (NSWG) at the U.S.-Japan Summit Meeting in November 2010 in response to a shared desire to demonstrate leadership in strengthening nuclear security worldwide. Subsequently, in 2012, the NSWG was included as one of five working groups in the U.S.-Japan Bilateral Commission on Civil Nuclear Cooperation. Presently, the NSWG provides an overarching framework for bilateral cooperation in nuclear and radiological security, nuclear safeguards, nuclear transport security, special nuclear material minimization, plutonium management, countering nuclear smuggling, and nuclear material attractiveness.
