Course Description
In bone grafting, complications happen. What separates a scare from a failure is whether the biology was respected. Using real cases, this session breaks down what went wrong, what went right, and how graft stability and wound closure decided the outcome. We'll walk through the periosteal sling suture, a technique that anchors the membrane and graft to the periosteum to keep the site immobile while bone forms, and tie every step back to the PASS principles: primary closure, angiogenesis, space maintenance, and stability.
Learning Objectives:
Explain the PASS principles and how each one affects guided bone regeneration outcomes.
- Describe the periosteal sling suture technique and how it stabilizes the graft and membrane during healing.
- Recognize common grafting complications, such as graft exposure, membrane micromovement, and graft loss, and identify which principle was compromised and how to prevent it.
