Using FLIP IT with Adults: Conquering Conflict with Staff, Families, and Yourself

Thursdays, November 5 and 12, 2026, from 1-2:30 p.m. (ET)

It turns out that what works for young children can also work for adults! During challenging moments, grown-ups and children alike benefit from using the FLIP IT strategy, an effective four-step process for addressing challenging moments with young children. It is made up of four steps, embodied in the FLIP mnemonic which stands for Feelings, Limits, Inquiries, and Prompts. These four steps can now be adapted to help resolve conflict with adults.

This two-session training will discuss how to use the FLIP IT strategy to work through conflict with staff, with the families of children in your care, and even with yourself. Participants will learn how FLIP IT can become a go-to strategy that will create healthy habits for coping and problem-solving during challenging moments.

By the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify when they are feeling challenged by their own stressors or by another adult’s behavior
  • Apply the four FLIP IT steps to support their own regulation and healthy coping
  • Employ the four FLIP IT steps during conflicts with other adults
