The goal of the workshop is to learn from the current state of the science (pre-clinical,
available clinical results); identify persistent challenges and scientific or logistical bottlenecks (especially ones where NIH/NIAID investment or influence will be valuable); identify animal needs, diagnostic technique gaps, or therapeutic reagent needs, and opportunities for collaboration and harmonization across the IXCRP and other entities; identify resources (pig phenotypes, other reagents) and funding support (partnerships with industry or other funding agencies) to continue and expand current research framework, with the shared goal to overcome remaining barriers; and more clearly define the path to success for each organ as per FDA feedback.
