Course Description

The purpose of this activity is to provide allergists and immunologists with up-to-date information on primary and secondary immunodeficiency disease states and advances on ordering and interpreting relevant genetic testing. The meeting will conclude with presentations from local allergy fellows-in-training.

Learning Objectives

1. Identify at least three key environmental exposures (e.g., diet, pollutants, microbial/animal exposures) that influence the gut, and respiratory microbiome and describe their role in allergic disease development.
2. Explain at least two mechanisms by which microbiome alterations across barrier sites (gut, skin, airway) contribute to immune dysregulation and allergic inflammation, and apply this knowledge to clinical or prevention-focused scenario.
3. Describe the respiratory and allergy related health effects of vaping, e-cigs, and cannabis use in patients with asthma and allergic disease. 
4. Apply a patient centered, nonjudgmental counseling approach to screen for and discuss vaping and cannabis use with patients.
5. Describe the impact of atopic conditions — including asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis — on maternal and fetal outcomes, and apply evidence-based management strategies to optimize control during pregnancy.
6. Describe the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of pediatric eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs), including key differences among EoE and non-EoE EGIDs.
7. Apply current diagnostic criteria and management strategies to pediatric EGID cases, including selection of pharmacologic, dietary, and endoscopic interventions.
