This in-person two-day course provides participants with a broad understanding of key topics related to oil and natural gas pipelines and facilities, as outlined in the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z662 Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems Standard.
Led by a seasoned instructor with over 40 years of industry experience and more than 16 years of delivering highly-rated CSA Z662 training, the seminar emphasizes the practical application of CSA Z662 across the entire pipeline system lifecycle—from design and construction to operation in onshore environments.
The instructor and the in-person format promote and encourage active participation and discussion, allowing attendees to share real-world challenges and experiences. These conversations help contextualize the CSA Z662 topics being discussed and foster a deeper understanding of the standard’s practical use.
Participants will learn to:
- Understand how the CSA Z662 standard is developed and how the standard and pipeline regulations interact to contribute to pipeline system safety;
- Learn the practical application of CSA Z662 to the pipeline system lifecycle from design, construction, operation, maintenance and abandonment;
- Become aware of Safety and Loss Management System, Integrity Management Program and Engineering Assessment concepts;
- Obtain foundational knowledge of CSA Z662 pipeline design and material requirements;
- Understand when ASME B31.3 may be used within a CSA Z662 design and the key differences;
- Learn the main requirements for construction, welding, pressure testing and corrosion control and their practical applications;
- Recognize operations and maintenance requirements and relevant issues such as safety considerations and procedures and records requirements;
- Learn the requirements for imperfection evaluations, acceptable repair methodologies, deactivation, reactivation and abandonment; and
- Obtain a working knowledge of the application of the standard through the use of examples and contextual discussion of the intent of the clause.
- Understand the major changes and their implications that occurred in the new 2023 version of the standard.
Who Should AttendThe course is designed for pipeline engineers, technologists, inspectors or other professionals who require a working knowledge of the standard.
