The Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration’s (DOE/NNSA) and the European Commission (Euratom Safeguards) are excited to announce the 2026 Nuclear Facilities and Safeguards Experience (NFASE) in Europe from 4 to 9 October 2026. NFASE provides an opportunity for U.S. advanced nuclear industry to experience how international nuclear safeguards are implemented by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Euratom Safeguards in operating facilities.
A good understanding of international nuclear safeguards is key to compete in a global nuclear market. NFASE aims to increase this understanding by demonstrating safeguards “in the wild”, with introductions by, and conversations with, operational safeguards experts.
Target audience: NFASE is intended for U.S. stakeholders in the advanced nuclear industry. Both representatives of technology developers and production companies, as their partners in the advanced nuclear supply chain are welcome. Ideally, participants are involved in the technical design of the facility, or part of the regulatory/licensing effort.
Overview of facilities: The 2026 NFASE Europe will include bulk accounting facilities, operating reactors, front end and back-end facilities, and the European Commission’s nuclear regulatory body, Euratom Safeguards:
- European Commission (Euratom Safeguards) - Luxembourg;
- Borssele Nuclear Power Plant & Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA) - Netherlands;
- Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) Pallas - Netherlands;
- Urenco enrichment - Netherlands;
- Framatome advanced fuel - Germany.
These opportunities allow direct engagement with nuclear facility operators and safeguards practitioners for the benefit of U.S. industry stakeholders in the interest of advancing American nuclear interests.
Cost of the program: Industry participants are responsible for their own hotel and travel to and from the course. NNSA is covering the cost of the course fees and transport between facilities during the course.

Please understand there are a limited number of slots based on facility requirements and acceptance will occur on a rolling basis.
