Constructive Collisions: Convergent Research & Disruptive Discovery

This event seeks to spur the formation and expansion of research teams who have the goal of undertaking:

1. Convergence Research* projects as well as teams working toward
2. Disruptive Discovery

During this event, information will be shared about two new exciting internal seed funding programs to support such work:

1. The SVPR Transforming Ideas into Impact: Convergence Research Seed Program will support convergence research teams as they lay the foundation for seeking external funding intended to solve vexing research problems that serve a societal need.
2. The Office of the Provost supported seed grant, Disruptive Discovery, which will support teams whose scholarship will strongly disrupt previous research and will subsequently be further developed by many scholars, thereby changing the trajectory of the field.

Emory researchers from all schools and departments are encouraged to attended the event and apply for seed funding.

* The National Science Foundation notes that convergence research has two primary characteristics: (1) It is driven by a specific and compelling problem, whether that problem arises from deep scientific questions or pressing societal needs, and (2) It shows deep integration across disciplines.
