Course Description

Strategic Personal Development is designed to empower public and nonprofit employees with a transformative framework for personal and professional growth. Strategic plans guide and position teams, departments, and organizations all over the globe. This course will guide you in creating a visionary and realistic personal strategic plan that positions you for success. Through engaging activities and discussions, you will build self-awareness, articulate core values, and set meaningful goals to drive growth and change. Join us to unlock your full potential and thrive in your public or nonprofit career.

 

Key Course Activities:

- Begin with the End in Mind: Where we are going

-Developing Self-Awareness: Know Thyself....What is it and how is it developed?

- Start with the End in Mind: Write your Eulogy

- Assessing Your Current State: Identify strengths, values, and purpose

- Owning Your Story: Reflect on your unique experiences and their impact

- Fundamentals of Strategic Personal Development: Values, Strengths, and Purpose 

- Practicing Self-Development Tools: 15-minute free writing exercise

- Goal Creation and Sharing: Long-term, medium-term, and short-term goals

- Commitments and Action Steps: Large and small group discussions

This course is designed for public and nonprofit employees at all levels who aspire to enhance their personal and professional growth. Whether you're a manager, administrator, or frontline worker, this course provides valuable principles and practices of self-development applicable to your sector and position.

Brandi Braun AL-Issa

Brandi is passionate about how strategy, culture, leadership and coaching intersect to create impactful and thriving teams through sustained change stewardship.  

Brandi has been working in and serving the Columbus community since 2003; with over 16 years of public service and now in the non-profit sector as President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity-Mid Ohio. Brandi is an instructor at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, where she teaches about leadership, strategic planning, and change management and is a certified life and leadership coach.  

Her passion for human-centered strategy and leadership systems helps transform organizations and cultures to increase their effectiveness and impact. Before joining Habitat, Brandi was the Chief Advancement and Strategy Officer for the YMCA of Central Ohio, the Deputy Innovation Officer for the City of Columbus, Chief of Community Relations for Columbus Recreation and Parks, Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Ohio Department of Commerce and Assistant City Administrator for the City of Gahanna.

Brandi is a graduate of Leadership Columbus and a member of the 2021 Forty Under Forty Class. She has her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Public Administration. 

Brandi resides in Columbus with her husband, son, and two Pomeranians.

Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least five (5) business days before the course date to receive a refund. The last day to cancel for this course is June 2, 2027.

Substitutions
Can't make it to the course? You can always send someone in your place. Substitutions can be made until the day of the course,  June 9, 2027.

Follow these steps to make a substitution: 

  1. Refer to your registration confirmation email
  2. Scroll down to "Substitutions"
  3. Follow link in email
  4. Enter the confirmation number from the registration email
  5. At the top of the page, click on the “Substitute Registrant” button
  6. Enter the name and email of the new registrant
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Confirm

 

Waitlist
What happens if I am on a waitlist for a course? You will receive an email confirming you have been added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified by email.
 

 

CEU and CPE Policy
Attendance in this course can earn:

  • 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
  • 7.2 Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs)

Attendance is recorded at check-in at the start of the day, and full CEU or CPE credit is awarded based on an honor system, with the expectation that participants are present and actively engaged for the full MAPS course.

 

Course Certificate
Your course certificate will be emailed to you following the course. It will reflect your Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEs) earned and your attendance of the course. 

 

Photography
The Ohio State University may occasionally take pictures during educational events for use in program communication. If you do not want to be photographed during this course, please email the MAPS team at
glenn-training@osu.edu.

 

MAPS Membership 
A MAPS member receives a discounted rate of $250 for each course with the initial purchase of at least 12 credits. Each credit equals one course for one individual.
