This graduate level course will be held on Zoom on the following Wednesdays and one Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

With an additional session on Tuesday, January 5, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The course will examine cultural and language development factors that impact the achievement of students learning English as a new language. Participants will explore research-based pedagogical practices that can be used to design instruction that meets the needs of English language learners. Special emphasis will be placed on student empowerment and agency through inclusive environments and assessments. Participants will be required to complete a paper, midterm quiz and final project.
This course provides 45 CTLE hours in language acquisition for ELLs. It can also be used to fulfill 3 A+/P credits towards the +30 salary differential.
IMPORTANT: If you are interested in pursuing the salary differential, you will need to register through ASPDP as well when their catalog opens in September for an additional fee of $125. Teachers also have the option of registering to access 3 graduate level credit recommendations through the National College Recommendation Service (NCCRS) which can be used to fulfill 3 semester hours of the Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages requirement for ESOL certification in New York State. For this option, there is an additional course fee of $200. Please note that you do not have to purchase this option to use the course toward your salary differential.
