About the Meeting

The responsibilities and expectations of senior institutional leaders in Graduate Medical Education (GME) continue to expand in both scope and complexity. New and aspiring senior GME leaders are increasingly expected to move beyond day-to-day operational management to leading system-wide strategy—aligning stakeholders, navigating institutional dynamics, and positioning GME as a critical institutional asset within complex academic health systems. 

Building on the success of the GME Leadership Development Certificate Program, the Institutional GME Executives Leadership Development Program has evolved to meet the changing needs of the GME community. Throughout the forum, participants will collaborate with senior peers and national workgroups beyond their own institutions and specialties, fostering relationships that extend learning and influence beyond the classroom. 

What to Expect 

Grounded in evidence-based leadership frameworks and informed by the lived realities of institutional GME and academic medicine leaders, the Institutional GME Executives Leadership Development Program is designed to support you in navigating the strategic and operational complexities of executive-level GME leadership. 

This program provides a structured, applied learning experience that connects executive-level content directly to the demands of your role. You will engage in facilitated dialogue, case-based discussion, and strategic reflection alongside peers who understand the scope and pressures of institutional GME leadership. 

By the conclusion of the program, you will have sharpened your strategic perspective, expanded your executive toolkit, and strengthened your readiness to lead your GME office within the increasingly complex institutional environments.

Who Should Attend 

GME leaders, with up to three years’ experience in an Institutional GME leadership role, who are responsible for the institutional oversight of GME at their institution including: designated institutional officials, assistant/associate DIOs, GME deans, vice presidents for academic affairs, GME directors, and others. While the Institutional GME Executives Leadership Development Program is designed for those newer in their institutional roles, experienced and aspiring leaders are welcome to participate if the curriculum aligns with their leadership development goals.  

Please note that the program now uses a registration-based enrollment process, making it easier to secure your spot while maintaining the same rigorous learning experience. This update is intended to allow participants to plan and confirm their participation with greater ease.

At completion of the program, participants will be able to: 

• Apply strategies to enhance executive presence by demonstrating intentional communication, credibility, and influence in professional interactions. 
• Apply leadership strategies to effectively manage people, develop talent, and oversee enterprise-level resources across the GME continuum. 
• Develop deeper executive fluency in GME finance, legal frameworks, and regulatory environments 
• Demonstrate leadership approaches for implementing institutional change and managing complex systems within healthcare organizations. 
• Analyze approaches to advancing GME strategy, fostering innovation, and strengthening institutional advocacy.
