This training is ONLY for providers who have ALREADY ATTENDED a Your Parent Compass 8 CE training in 2024, 2025, or 2026.

This training reviews three Advanced Topics that providers have requested more information about after attending the Basic 8 CE training.

  1. Offering Your Parent Compass to One Family at a Time: The training covers how we offer Your Parent Compass to one family at a time (not only as a group). We share the structure, and all the materials and technology we have developed to offer these sessions.
  2. Clinical Approaches for Addressing Common Clinical Challenges Working with Caregivers: We offer approaches for addressing common clinical challenges that we encounter working with caregivers of struggling youth, including Caregivers:
    1. Insisting on addressing current problems rather than learning skills
    2. Being too emotionally dysregulated in session to address parenting challenges
    3. Saying the skills don't work or they're already tried them
    4. Not doing the homework
  3. Approaches to Recruiting Parents to participate in Your Parent Compass: We review approaches to recruiting caregivers to do Your Parent Compass - as a class or individually. We review marketing approaches, as well as possible intake processes. Participants develop and practice their own strategies for recruitment.

As with all Your Parent Compass trainings, we use Skits to facilitate reflection and learning. The Skits in this training demonstrate ways providers can interact with caregivers, and then in the training, participants discuss and then practice effective approaches for their own clinical practice.

Take-away materials:

Providers who take the training will have access to all the materials needed to offer Your Parent Compass to one family at a time:

  • 8 Guides to Applying the Skills Sessions
  • Eight 1.5-hour HIPAA-compliant videos of actual Your Parent Compass classes that caregivers can watch

Learning Objectives:

Participants who attend the 3-hour course will be able to:

  1. Identify 2 strategies for delivering Your Parent Compass to 1 family at a time.
  2. Describe 2 common challenging clinical situations in working with caregivers, and how they would validate caregivers and support caregivers in discussing how they are using skills with their youth.
  3. Name 2 strategies to recruit caregivers to participate in group or individual sessions of Your Parent Compass.
