Each year, Learn Serve Lead: The AAMC Annual Meeting brings together the academic medicine community from across the nation to discuss the most pressing issues impacting health and health care. This is the AAMC’s premier learning and networking opportunity, and it is open to all.

Our annual meeting attendee pool is diverse — a mix of deans, chiefs, presidents, directors, educators, faculty members, researchers, students, and other professionals committed to shaping the future of academic medicine.
WHAT WE DO
Learn Serve Lead brings the academic medicine community together to harness the power of collective wisdom, driving meaningful change and advocating for underrepresented and historically marginalized communities. We support our faculty and staff by offering unique opportunities to meet directly with those who can influence positive change and foster your professional development. In short, we provide a meaningful space for constructive dialogue to advance academic medicine.
WHERE WE ARE
The AAMC’s annual meeting attendees come from all over the world. The AAMC has 171 accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools, more than 400 major teaching hospitals and health systems, including Veterans Affairs medical centers, and more than 70 faculty and academic societies.
Each year, Learn Serve Lead is hosted in a different city, so that we can reach our members where they are. This immersive learning environment gives attendees the opportunity to explore cultural attractions, historical landmarks, and the area’s most unique restaurants, enhancing the meeting’s educational and networking experience.
This year, Lean Serve Lead is coming to Atlanta, Georgia, a city brimming with Southern hospitality and rich with civil rights history. Atlanta is home to the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC), the hub of the annual meeting, as well as the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the country, where the Learn Serve Lead 2024 welcome reception will take place. We encourage attendees to take advantage of the sights and sounds of Atlanta, including visits to staples such as Ponce City Market and Centennial Olympic Park.
Please note, Atlanta hosts meetings at the Atlanta Convention Center, which is unaffiliated with the GWCC. No part of Learn Serve Lead 2024 will be held at the Atlanta Convention Center.

WHAT WE DISCUSS
Health care, academic medicine, and technology are constantly evolving. Our conversations at Learn Serve Lead are future-focused and critically examine today’s most pressing challenges through multiple lenses. Sessions offer an opportunity to confront academic medicine’s challenges face-to-face. Curated speakers include leading voices in areas such as health care, sociology, and environmentalism, who provide insights to advance medical education, patient care, and biomedical research. By learning from others at Learn Serve Lead, you’ll return to your institution with purpose and fresh ideas that can translate into a broadened perspective and approach to academic medicine.

MORE SUSTAINABLE
The AAMC is committed to producing robust meetings of the highest quality, which inspires us to identify sustainable practices for our in-person conference.
The GWCC is the largest LEED Gold certified convention center in the world. A leader in food donating and composting, the GWCC also houses three beehives for pollinating and offers water stations throughout the center.
We encourage attendees to utilize Atlanta’s train system, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), which transports people between the city’s main airport (Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport) and the GWCC, Building B. Trains are located next to Baggage Claim, depart frequently, and deliver visitors to downtown Atlanta in only 15 minutes. Passengers will experience a few stops and will not have to change trains. Those who opt for rideshare (i.e., Uber, Lyft) should plan for a 30-minute drive with traffic.
Attendees can reduce single-use plastic containers by bringing reuseable water bottles, which can be filled at the GWCC’s meeting rooms water bottle filling stations.
The PATH Foundation off-road trails surrounding the GWCC campus connect walkers and bikers to downtown.
Here are some of the GWCC’s sustainable accomplishments by the numbers:
- More than 20 million gallons of water saved, approximately double the amount of water that the Georgia Aquarium holds.
- 70,000 pounds of materials donated to local nonprofits following Super Bowl LIII.
- 27,600+ meals donated to 14 Atlanta nonprofits after Super Bowl LIII.
- 100+ pounds of honey culled from the first harvest of its three on-campus beehives.
