About the Meeting

The AASHTO Council on Active Transportation (CAT) and Committee on Planning (COP) will convene in Baltimore, Maryland, July 27–29, 2026. Held under the theme “Planning for a Safe, Active, and Multimodal Future,” the meeting will bring together state DOT professionals and partners to explore key issues at the intersection of transportation planning and active transportation.

Over three days, participants will engage in plenary sessions, concurrent breakouts, hands‑on workshops, and committee business meetings. Topics will include transportation safety planning, multimodal network planning and connectivity, freight and modal interactions, active transportation data needs and collection methods, complete streets, and planning and active transportation considerations for the 2027–2032 federal surface transportation reauthorization.

The meeting will also provide opportunities to exchange experiences, share practices, and strengthen relationships across state DOTs, federal agencies, MPOs, academia, and industry. Hosted by the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland State Highway Administration, the event will feature networking activities such as a local bike ride, an active transportation walking audit, a team scavenger hunt, and an on‑site reception.

Whether you are a longtime CAT or COP member or attending for the first time, your participation and input are essential to advancing the work of both groups.
