Displays, Optics & Sensors in AR/VR/MR Wearables
Hosted by: Bay Area SID Chapter
This two-part workshop series takes attendees inside the hardware that makes today's smart glasses and mixed-reality wearables possible.
- First session explores how display and optics choices—from microOLED panels with polarization control to microLED-fed diffractive waveguides—shape the wearer's experience, culminating in a live device tear-down that reveals the system-level engineering behind each design.
- In the second session, learn how a device perceives the world, examining how RGB and IR cameras, ToF LiDAR, and illuminators are packed into tightly constrained form factors to enable 6DoF tracking, digital occlusion, and low-latency pass-through.
Together, the sessions offer a rare, end-to-end look at both what the user sees and how the device understands its surroundings. Whether you build, design, or simply want to understand these devices, you'll leave with a system-level grasp of the choices that define modern AR/VR/MR wearables.
