Course Overview
- This course is entirely online and coincides with university semesters.
- Students may take the class both synchronously and asynchronously.
- Participants will receive 4.00 CEU upon completion
- Venue – for distance learning classes will be on Zoom.
- Special preparation(s) needed – Enrollment in DL Master degree. Undergraduate degree in natural sciences, engineering, or business. Recommended 4+ years working experience.

Learning Objectives
Upon successfully completing the course, you will be able to:
- Describe the importance of energy to a sustainable development of humanity.
- Identify key energy technologies that enable our current standard of living.
- Describe the types of energy that exist in nature and their physical principles (mechanical, thermal, chemical, electromagnetic, nuclear).
- Evaluate the effects of production and use of energy resources on the environment. Describe and compare various challenges that humanity faces to ensure access to reliable, abundant, affordable and clean energy that does not adversely affect the environment.
- Compare and contrast various energy resources available to humanity (fossil, nuclear, and renewables, hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, and biofuels). Explain how and where those resources are found, produced, and used.
- Apply US Energy Information Administration, BP Statistical review and International Energy Agency data to calculate energy consumption and emissions trends, power requirements, and energy efficiency for a particular state or country.
- Propose solutions suitable for a particular state or country and illustrate with specific examples.
Target Audience
Our target audience is distance learning graduate students of all engineering disciplines (mechanical, chemical, electrical, petroleum, nuclear, multidisciplinary, industrial distribution). The course will be very useful for industry professionals who work in a particular segment of the energy industry (for example petroleum industry) to gain broad yet fairly in-depth perspective of all available energy options and their advantages and limitations.
