Course Overview

The SAGES Annual Flexible Endoscopy Course for MIS Fellows is an immersive course that delivers a strong foundation in diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopy, with practical applications for surgical trainees across multiple disciplines. Designed for fellows in the 2026–2027 academic year, it features didactic panels, expert demonstrations, and hands-on lab sessions that provide real-world skill development in a structured environment.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, fellows will be able to:

  • Recognize and manage common GI pathologies using flexible endoscopy
  • Learn options for management of GI hemorrhage, perforations, fistulas, biliary and foregut pathology
  • Practice advanced procedures such as EMR, ESD, POEM, ESG in simulated lab settings

Fellowship Year: This course is for fellows in the 2026-2027 fellowship year.

Capacity: Registration is limited to the first 60 fellows. Each program may register up to two fellows.

Membership Requirement: SAGES Candidate Membership (or submission of a completed SAGES membership application) is required to participate.

Fees & Refund Policy

  • A $100 deposit is required at registration.
  • This deposit will be refunded upon course completion.
  • No-shows will forfeit the deposit (no refunds for non-attendance).

Travel & Transportation

  • Air Travel: Fellows are responsible for arranging their own flights to Cleveland, OH.
  • Ground Transportation: Participants must arrange transportation to the hotel.
  • Return Shuttle: A complimentary shuttle to Cleveland Airport will be provided on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Location and Hotel Accommodations

  • Location: University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center | Cleveland, Ohio
  • Hotel rooms will be provided for the nights of Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18.
  • Fellows will be assigned a same-gender roommate.
  • Single rooms are available upon request for an additional cost.
  • Any additional nights outside of those dates are the fellow’s responsibility.

Meals & Social Event

  • Thursday, September 17: A Welcome Reception will be held at the Courtyard Cleveland University Circle for faculty and fellows. 
  • Friday, September 18: A Course Dinner & Social Event will be hosted off-site. Shuttle transportation to and from the hotel will be provided.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and refreshments are included on September 18 and 19.
