APPLICATIONS OPEN 3 AUGUST AT 3PM AND CLOSE 30 AUGUST 2026

The Walsh is a very popular annual two-week flying school for Scouts, Guides and other young New Zealanders. Students outside of Scouting are welcome to apply for the limited number of other places available.

Students are reminded that they must be between the ages of 16-19 years of age.

Sponsorship

A limited amount of sponsorship is available for students who would not normally be financially able to attend the school. Application for sponsorship is included in the school registration.

Cancellation

Scouts Aotearoa has the unilateral right to cancel or change this event or not provide the event in the manner promoted if there are reasons outside of our reasonable control (including, but not limited to, any act of god, fire, natural disaster, disease, epidemic, pandemic, or because of any government order, shut-down or regulation (each a “Force Majeure Event”)).

If a Force Majeure Event occurs or the effect of a Force Majeure Event continues, we will use reasonable efforts to provide an alternative event where possible, and we may amend or cancel your booking.

To the extent permitted by the law, Scouts Aotearoa (or any individual associated with Scouts Aotearoa or involved in running the event) will not be liable for any losses you suffer as a result of any such cancellation, postponement, change of event (including any change in requirements for participation) or any restriction on participation.

Scouts Aotearoa will continue to meet our requirements under any applicable consumer law.

Details

We strongly encourage the student to complete this registration with the help of a parent. Each registration must have a unique primary email address. Please use the student's email address as the primary email address. Parent's email address(es) are required during the registration and all will receive emails sent out by this registration system.

There will be some answers to questions that you will not immediately know. Please return to your registration at a later date to answer those questions. Remember to save your answers to questions at the bottom of each page and continue through all the pages. You will receive an email saying that your modifications have been recorded.

When you have completed your registration you and your parents will each receive an email to say that you have completed your registration. Your registration will be "pending" until we confirm your registration.

Please be aware that members of Scouts Aotearoa or GirlGuiding New Zealand have preference for ab-initio places up until the end of August.

Early September all places on the school will be allocated to students within and outside of Scouting and we will contact all students who have registered to confirm, or otherwise, places on the school. Unsuccessful students will be placed on the waitlist.

Returned Students are a key element in the successful operation of the school. Returned Students are selected on merit from previous schools for the limited number of places.

Students wishing to attend the school in a Student Staff position are asked to email walsh@scouts.nz indicating the job(s) they would like to do and why they should get that position. Positions available are flight ops, refuelling, asst. quartermaster and kitchen. Student staff will be expected to attend the school for the full duration of the school.

You can log back into your registration at any time and update your answers. You will receive a registration confirmation number, keep this number in a safe place, you will need it to log back in to update your registration. The number is also used to track your payments.
