20th NRAO Synthesis Imaging Summer School

Join us for the next Synthesis Imaging Workshop in 2026!

The first NRAO Synthesis Imaging and Interferometry School was held in 1983, and proved to be a great success and a much needed resource for radio astronomers, both novice and more advanced users of the then newly delivered Very Large Array. Forty years later and we are excited to be organising the school's 20th edition.

The 20th NRAO Synthesis Imaging Summer School will be held on 15 - 22 May 2024 in Socorro, New Mexico. The workshop will consist of a week of lectures on aperture synthesis theory and techniques at a level appropriate for graduate students in astrophysics, covering both radio interferometry fundamentals and state-of-the-art methods and techniques. The program will also include discussion groups, and tutorials demonstrating data collection, calibration, and imaging of various types of observations, including new data from the Very Large Array (VLA), Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA),  and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA).
