The HSLsand the NEPM have been out for over 5 years. The HSLs at the time were considered ground-breaking as it was the first set of semi-site-specific screening criteria published in Australia. The application of the HSLs were noted to be more complex than previous screen criteria used. A series of training sessions were run in 2013 with the release of the NEPM to assist consultants and industry learn how to properly use the HSLs and the pitfalls to avoid. This session is a truncated version of the training as a refresher for those who participated in the original workshop and as a good introduction for those new to the industry.We will conclude the session with an audience driven question and answer session.

Technical Director
Eric Friebel is currently working for GHD as the Technical Director for Health Risk Assessment in the Contamination Assessment and Remediation group in Melbourne. He has23years’ experience ofundertaking human health risk assessment for soil, groundwater and vapour and ambient air, and specialises in vapour intrusion, and probability based remediation cost estimation. Eric has also undertaken the development of risk-based guidelines, and is the primary author of the CRC CARE Technical Report No. 10, Health Screening Levels for Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soil and Groundwater., 2011.
